January 2018

I haven't  done much  work through the summer heat, just a few little projects to fill in time.

An elastic waisted skirt, side splits , almost ankle length. Made in a linen blend fabric from my stash  had this for many years, from the days when I  made and wore form fitting pencil skirts for work.

 A cool sleeveless summer top made from the offcuts from the dress I made in December. To add extra length I added the hems as extra pieces, the front cut creatively to use all the fabric.

Love Quilt

This morning I  put the final stitches into this quilt. It is  a mix of embroidered  and nine patch blocks measuring 6 1/2".  Finished size including crochet border is 22".

The idea needs a few tweaks, but overall am happy with the result.
  •  use a wing needle to make the eyelets for the blanket stitch or crochet foundation row;
  • Use a mercerized cotton for foundation row, the acrylic baby yarn shredded  too easily and the 4ply cotton wasn't much better;
  • Use cotton for the crochet joins, the baby yarn was too soft and I  was not happy with the result.
The blocks for my next project. A red theme coming up.

Charity Quilts

I have completed  two small Love Quilts for the local hospital.   My friend has been crocheting colourful mandalas and turning them into dream catchers. I asked her to crochet a couple for me and then I attached them to a small 20" quilt.
The one above didn't have the binding attached when I took this photo.

 Front and back of the second one.
I am nearly finished this one. The green star was crocheted by myself and I kept the theme going, matching it with pink.
